Jalaram Jayanti

Jalaram Jayanti marks the birth anniversary of Shri Jalaram Bapa (1799-1881 AD), one of the greatest gurus of the modern era.

Shri Jalaram Bapa is famous for advocating pious life full of devotion and influential acts of good deeds. He was born on Shukla Paksha saptami tithi in Kartik Month.

This Festival is a grand celebration in Jalaram Temples in Virpur, Jalaram Temple Dharma, and all other Jalaram Temples.

Life of Shri Jalaram Bapa

Shri Jalaram Bapa was born in Kartik month in 1799 in Virpur, Gujarat. His mother's name was Rajbai, and his father's name was Pradhan Thakkar.

Bapa's mother was a very pious person who was very inclined to serve sadhus and saints. Saint Raghuveerdasji was impressed with her selfless service and blessed Jalaram's mother that she would give birth to a son who would be instrumental in spiritual movements and religious services.

Then she gave birth to Shri Jalaram Bapa. Right from childhood, Jalaram was a very remarkable child. There was a significant incident in the early life of Jalaram saint when he was a child, a saint visited the house and requested to see young Jalram; when they came face to face with each other - Jalaram greeted the saint, and suddenly it appeared that Jalaram had recollected his previous life realizing, who he was.

This reminded him of his supreme goal in life. The saint was later remembered as a heavenly messenger - from that day onwards, the young Jalaram never stopped chanting "Sita Ram."

Jalaram, at the young age of 14, was married to Virbai, daughter of Thakkar Pragji Somaija. Virbac was an ideal spiritual match for Jalaram, and she was also inclined in spiritual life and pious duties.

At the age of 18, Jalaram accepted Saint Bhojalram as his Guru, and with Gurus' blessings, both Jalaram and Virbaima stayed at the holy mutt. They began a feeding center called "Sadavrat," a place where all sadhus and saints, along with the poor & needy, were fed well during 24 hours of the day.

Jalaram's strong belief echoed the crux of the Vedas, "This was the Lord's order - This was Lord's work - I am not doing anything for anybody - Lord has instructed me to do this holy work - since it is Lord's work HE will look after it and ensure that it functions." Until their last day, this saint couple served the whole community and Saints & Sadhus. This was their main spiritual and devotional Sadhana.

Shri Jalaram was a great follower of Sanatana Dharma. On feeding hungry people, He mentioned that "I am feeding Narayana" – the excellent teaching of Sanatana Dharma where all animate and inanimate rise and merge in the Supreme Being, serving them means serving Narayana.
