Most of the time Govardhan Puja day falls next day after Diwali Puja and it is celebrated as the day when Lord Krishna defeated God Indra. Sometimes there might be one day gap between Diwali and Govardhan Puja.
In religious texts, Govardhan Puja celebrations are suggested during Pratipada Tithi of Kartik month. Depending on starting time of Pratipada, Govardhan Puja day might fall one day before on Amavasya day on Hindu calendar.
Gowardhan Puja is also known as Annakut Puja. On this day food made of cereals like wheat, rice, curry made of gram flour and leafy vegetables is cooked and offered to Lord Krishna.
In Maharashtra the same day is celebrated as Bali Pratipada or Bali Padva. The day commemorates victory of Vamana, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, over King Bali and subsequent pushing of Bali to Patal Lok (the underworld). It is believed that due to boon given by Lord Vamana, Asura King Bali visits the Prithvi Lok from the Patala Lok on this day.
Most of the time Govardhan Puja day coincides with Gujarati New Year day, which is celebrated on Shukla Paksha Pratipada of Kartik month. Depending on starting time of Pratipada Tithi, Govardhan Puja celebrations could be done one day before Gujarati New Year day.

Govardhan Puja 2022: Significance
The day of Govardhan Puja is celebrated to mark the victory of Lord Krishna over Lord Indra. According to the Bhagavata Purana, Lord Krishna lifted the Govardhan hill on his right hand's little finger to provide shelter to the people of Vrindavan from heavy rains. After continuous heavy rains for 5-8 days, Lord Indra accepted his defeat over Lord Krishna and stopped the rain. He came to Lord Krishna and apologized for his cruel actions towards the people of Vrindavan. Since then, the day is celebrated to pay respect to Mount Govardhan and puja is performed.
Govardhan Puja 2022: Date and Shubh Muhurat
The auspicious occasion of Govardhan Puja will be observed on October 26, 2022. According to Drik Panchang, the Pratipada Tithi will begin at 04:18 PM on October 25 and end at 02:42 PM on October 26, 2022.
The Govardhan Puja Pratahkal Muhurat is from 06:12 AM to 08:32 AM on October 26, 2022.
Govardhan Puja 2022: Puja Vidhi
On the day of Govardhan Puja, wake up in Brahma Muhurat, take bath and wear clean clothes. Prepare 56 delicacies for Lord Krishna and make some cow dung hillocks in an open space to perform puja. Decorate the open space with diyas, candles, and seekh and do circumambulation of the cow dung hillocks. Pray to Lord Krishan to shower his blessings over you and your family.

हिंदू पंचांग के अनुसार, कार्तिक माह में शुक्ल पक्ष की प्रतिपदा तिथि पर गोवर्धन पूजा की जाती है। यानी दिवाली अगले दिन ये पर्व मनाया जाता है। इस साल 24 अक्टूबर को दिवाली है। इस हिसाब से गोवर्धन पूजा 25 अक्टूबर को होनी चाहिए, लेकिन इस बार दिवाली और गोवर्धन पूजा के बीच में सूर्य ग्रहण लग रहा है। ऐसे में सूर्यग्रहण के कारण इस साल दिवाली के अगले दिन 25 अक्टूबर को गोवर्धन पूजा नहीं होगी। सूर्य ग्रहण की वजह से गोवर्धन पूजा 26 अक्टूबर को है। गोवर्धन पूजा को अन्नकूट के नाम से भी जाना जाता है। इस दिन महिलाएं अपने घर के आंगन में गोबर से गोवर्धन पर्वत की आकृति बनाती हैं और उसकी पूजा करती हैं। चलिए जानते हैं कि इस बार दीपावली के एक दिन बाद क्यों मनाया जाएगा गोवर्धन पूजा का पर्व, इसकी पूजा विधि और शुभ मुहूर्त…
गोवर्धन पूजा मुहूर्त
इस साल 26 अक्टूबर को गोवर्धन पूजा है। कार्तिक मास के शुक्ल पक्ष की प्रतिपदा तिथि 25 अक्टूबर को शाम 4 बजकर 18 मिनट पर शुरू हो रही है। ये तिथि 26 अक्टूबर को दोपहर 2 बजकर 42 मिनट पर समाप्त होगी। वहीं इस दिन पूजा का शुभ मुहूर्त सुबह 6 बजकर 29 मिनट से लेकर सुबह 8 बजकर 43 मिनट तक रहेगा।
गोवर्धन पूजा विधि
गोवर्धन पूजा के दिन सुबह काल जल्दी उठकर स्नानादि करें। फिर शुभ मुहूर्त में गाय के गोबर से गिरिराज गोवर्धन पर्वत की आकृति बनाएं और साथ ही पशुधन यानी गाय, बछड़े आदि की आकृति भी बनाएं। इसके बाद धूप-दीप आदि से विधिवत पूजा करें। भगवान कृष्ण को दुग्ध से स्नान कराने के बाद उनका पूजन करें। इसके बाद अन्नकूट का भोग लगाएं।
गोवर्धन पूजा का महत्व
मान्यताओं के अनुसार, भगवान कृष्ण के द्वारा ही सर्वप्रथम गोवर्धन पूजा आरंभ करवाई गई थी और गोवर्धन पर्वत तो अपनी उंगली पर उठाकर इंद्रदेव के क्रोध से ब्रज वासियों और पशु-पक्षियों की रक्षा की थी। यही कारण है कि गोवर्धन पूजा में गिरिराज के साथ कृष्ण जी के पूजन का भी विधान है। इस दिन अन्नकूट का विशेष महत्व माना जाता है।
